Do you have a strong foundation in structural mechanics and thrive on turning complex engineering challenges into practical solutions? Then this could be your next chance to take on one of the most complex engineering challenges of our time and play a role in shaping the future of fusion energy.

About Novatron Fusion Group
Novatron Fusion Group is a Swedish company aiming to revolutionize the field of atomic fusion for energy production. Founded in 2019, the company comprises first-class talent from around the world. Building on the groundbreaking Novatron design from inventor and founder Jan Jäderberg, Novatron Fusion Group has become one of Europe's leading fusion companies. The team has set out to not only develop a revolutionary invention but also build a one-of-a-kind culture, encouraging innovation and personal growth through creativity and strong collaboration.

Through the efforts of Novatron Fusion Group, the world might finally unlock the mystery that is fusion power, with the potential to offer unlimited access to emission-free, reliable, safe, and cost-effective energy for all. This could provide a much-needed solution to several of humanity's greatest challenges: the growing need for energy and the acceleration of climate change.

About the role as Structural & Calculation Engineer
We are looking for a Structural & Calculation Engineer with a strong load-path mindset to join the engineering team. You will take ownership of structural verification and support key engineering decisions in demanding technical environments. Working closely with the technical team, you will develop robust structural solutions for fusion systems, including support structures for superconducting magnets exposed to high electromagnetic forces.

Your work is based on first-principles mechanics, such as free body diagrams, equilibrium reasoning, and hand calculations, using FEM as a tool for verification and refinement. This role suits an engineer who thinks in forces, constraints, and structural flow, designing support structures that carry high loads efficiently while minimizing bending moments, stress concentrations, and unintended constraints.

Your initial responsibilities would include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Perform structural calculations and verify designs, including magnetic forces.
  • Strength and fatigue calculations of structural components and welded joints.
  • Support and participate in design reviews focusing on integrity and load paths.
  • Calculate designs for prototyping, testing, and production to meet functional and safety requirements.
  • Optimize components for strength, durability, and manufacturability.
  • Maintain and update design documentation.
  • Identify, interpret, and apply relevant standards and regulations within areas such as structural mechanics, pressure vessels, radiation environments, and related fields.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment with performance and manufacturing goals.
  • Contribute to design decisions using engineering judgement, not only FEM results.

Your profile
We believe you have a university degree in a relevant engineering discipline and at least 3 years of professional experience in structural mechanics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. You have a proven ability to turn ideas into verified and implemented solutions, along with a strong understanding of mechanical loads, moments, shear forces, and stress distributions. You are experienced in working with CAD and FEM tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, SolidWorks, or similar. You are fluent in both English and Swedish, spoken and written, and are strongly motivated to learn and contribute to technology development. Experience with high-force structures, such as those involving magnetic fields, as well as work in safety-critical or regulated environments like nuclear, energy, or heavy industry, is considered an advantage.

As a person, you are a team player who is self-driven, hands-on, and free from prestige, with a natural ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams. You thrive in a dynamic environment within a fast-growing internationally expanding organization. With an entrepreneurial mindset, you take initiative and confidently embrace new challenges.

Requirements

  • A university degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in structural mechanics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
  • Experience turning ideas into verified and implemented solutions.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical loads, moments, shear forces, and stress distributions.
  • Experience using CAD and FEM tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Fluency in English and Swedish, both spoken and written.

Preferred:

  • Experience with high-force structures (e.g., magnetic fields).
  • Experience in safety-critical or regulated environments (e.g., nuclear, energy, heavy industry).
  • Knowledge of radiation effects on materials.
  • Experience designing large mechanical or structural systems.
  • Knowledge of material selection for demanding or extreme operating conditions.
